Troubleshooting: Error Code

Quick Fixes to Get You Back In 🔒

Seeing a "403 Forbidden" error, or a similar error code, when you or a student try to log in or use ReadTheory? This is almost always caused by something on the browser side (outdated version, an extension, or cached data), not a problem with the account itself. Try the steps below in order.

📑 Table of Contents

Quick Fixes to Try First

  1. Use Google Chrome, and make sure it's up to date. Both you and your students should be on the latest version. To update Chrome:
    • Open Chrome and click the three dots in the top-right corner.
    • Click Help, then About Google Chrome.
    • If an update is available, click Update, then Relaunch.
    • (If you don't see an update option, you're already on the latest version.)
  2. Turn off any ad blockers or pop-up blockers. These can interfere with the site.
  3. Try logging in through an Incognito window. Use Ctrl+Shift+N on Windows/Chromebook, or Cmd+Shift+N on Mac.
  4. Clear your cache and cookies. Use Ctrl+Shift+Delete on Windows, or Cmd+Shift+Delete on Mac.
