Assigning Activities

Create recurring goals, assign specific passages, or start a classroom competition—all from the Activities tab. 📚

ReadTheory adapts to each student’s level automatically, but the Activities feature lets you take control by setting goals, assigning passages, or launching competitions to boost engagement and structure learning.

Recurring Weekly Activities

Use Recurring Activities to create ongoing reading routines that refresh automatically each week.

How to Create a Recurring Activity:

  1. Go to the Activities tab
  2. Click Create New Activity → select Recurring Weekly Activity

  3. Click Proceed, then choose your class or specific students

  4. Click Proceed again
  5. Adjust your settings (see below), name your activity, and click Finish

Settings:

  • Free users: 5 quizzes per week (Monday–Sunday, EST). Settings are fixed.

  • Premium users:

    • Choose the number of quizzes

    • Set a custom due date range

    • Customize rules: Must Complete or Must Pass

When students log in, they’ll see a pop-up:

“You were assigned a new activity” with options to Start Now or Do Later.

If they choose Do Later, they can find it under My ProgressStart Activity.

💡 Tip: To cancel a recurring activity, go to the Activities tab, click the three dots next to the activity, and select Cancel.


Assigning a Specific Passage (Premium Only)

Want all students working on the same text? Here's how:

Steps:

  1. Go to the Activities tab

  2. Click Create New Activity → select Assign a Specific Passage

  3. Click Proceed, then choose your class or specific students

  4. Browse through the available passages. You can search by title, reading level, or tags. Select Proceed.

  5. Set start and end dates. You can also select if you want to have written responses at the end of the selected passage. Select Proceed.

  6. Name your activity and click Finish

Students will see the activity in their My Progress tab.


Starting a Classroom Competition (Premium Only)

Motivate students with a fun Knowledge Point challenge:

Steps:

  1. Go to Activities → Create New Activity

  2. Choose Start a Competition

  3. Select which students or class you want to host the competition for

  4. Set a date range, and name the competition

  5. Click Finish

Students join through their My Progress tab. A live leaderboard appears on your Activities dashboard.

Retake Pre-Test Assessment (Premium Only)

Have students retake the pretest, without erasing their quiz history!

Steps:

  1. Go to the Activities tab
  2. Click Create New Activity → select Retake Pre-Test Assessment
  3. Click Proceed, then choose your class or specific students
  4. Click Finish
The selected student(s) will be prompted to retake the pretest the next time they log in. Their existing quiz history and progress will not be reset—only their original pretest score will be replaced.
