Getting Started - Student
How do I start working?
All users on our site need a username and password to log in. Students can either create their username and password themselves or a teacher can do it for them.
Check out this YouTube video to see how to get started: Getting Started Video
My Teacher Created My Username & Password
Once a teacher has created your student account, they will be issued a login card containing your login credentials.
Once your teacher has given you your login card, you can proceed to log in by navigating to https://readtheory.org/auth/login and entering the username and password that your teacher has provided you.
You may be prompted to create a new personalized password. Passwords must be at least 8 characters and contain at least one number.
Once you have done this you are now logged into your account! If your teacher has created the account for you then you are already connected to their class and no further action needs to be taken to connect to them.
I am Creating My Own Account
To create your own student account navigate to https://readtheory.org/app/sign-up/role and choose "Student".
You will then be prompted to create your account credentials. You would create a unique username and password.
Please note that usernames can only be used once by a single account. If you try to create a new account and receive the message that the "Username is Taken" try to make your username more unique. You can add your graduation year, class number, or middle name, for example.
Passwords must be at least 8 characters long and contain at least one number.
You will see the option to add your classcode. A classcode is used as a way for students to connect to their teachers. If your teacher tasks you with creating your own account, then they will likely provide you with your classcode so that you can get connected to them. If you do not know your classcode or forget to enter it at this point, no need to worry, it can be added to your account later!
If you have a school email address or parent email address that you would like to use to log in instead of creating a username and password, you can select "Sign in with Google", and enter your email credentials.
Once you have created your account you are now logged in and ready to get to work!
If you do need to enter your classcode after creating your account, you can do so by navigating to your "My Teachers" page located in the drop-down menu on the top-right-hand side of your screen.
If you want to connect to your teacher but they did not provide you with a classcode, you can do so by entering your teacher's email address on this same page. You can repeat these steps to connect to as many teachers as you need.
To Begin Working
When logging in for the first time, you will automatically be issued a pre-test. The pre-test is a one-time diagnostic quiz that will determine a starting point for your future quizzes. This will often take 5-15 minutes to complete. Once the pre-test is completed, you will be issued your next quiz. After the completion of every quiz, you will automatically be issued another. Talk to your teacher about how many quizzes they would like to complete!
Once you have completed your pre-test PLUS one additional quiz, your results will start to appear on your "My Progress" page. You can check this page at any time to monitor your progress.
Your teacher may assign certain projects to you. If they do, you will receive a pop-up when you log in informing you of the assignment. Chose "Start Now" to begin working on the assignment. If your teacher assigns you a recurring weekly activity, they are tasking you with completing a certain number of quizzes for the week. When you click "Start Now" any quiz you complete will start counting towards your weekly assignment. You can monitor how many of the week's quizzes you have completed by navigating to your "My Progress" page.
If your teacher assigns you an activity and you choose to "Do Later", bypass the pop-up, or don't receive the pop-up you can still start the assigned activity by navigating to your "My Progress" page and selecting "Start Activity" next to the listed activity.
