What are Knowledge Points?

Learn what Knowledge Points are, how students earn them, and how they can help you monitor engagement and participation in ReadTheory.

What Are Knowledge Points?

Knowledge Points (KP) are earned as students successfully complete reading passages and quizzes on ReadTheory. They provide a simple way to measure participation, progress, and engagement over time.

How Do Students Earn Knowledge Points?

Students earn Knowledge Points by completing reading activities and demonstrating comprehension through quiz performance.

As students continue reading and working through passages, their Knowledge Point totals will increase.

  • +1 KP per correct answer
  • +3 KP for a correct challenge question
  • +15 KP for passing a quiz (70%+)
  • +15 KP bonus for a perfect score

Setting a goal (e.g., 100 KP = 3–5 quizzes) is a helpful way to structure assignments. While KPs don’t unlock features, they power progress badges and printable achievement certificates.

‼️Important Note

While Knowledge Points can be a useful indicator of activity, they should be viewed alongside other reports and metrics, such as quiz scores, reading level growth, and assignment completion.

Knowledge Points are designed to reward participation and progress. They are not intended to be used as a standalone measure of reading ability or academic performance.

For a complete picture of student growth, review Knowledge Points alongside reading level, Lexile growth, quiz performance, and curriculum standards reports.
